From Classroom to Bakeoff: Producing My Own Baking Show

Last year, I got to combine two of my favorite things, food and teamwork, by producing a baking show for my school’s film elective, SHPTV. Inspired by The Great British Bake Off, I wanted to capture the fun, competition, and personalities of a baking contest — but with a twist: faster pacing, quirky mini-games, and plenty of laughs.
Behind the Scenes
We had a team of 8, and I was both producer and one of the judges on the show. My job was to:
Write and shape the script
Brainstorm challenges and mini-games
Organize the crew and make sure we ran like a professional set
Each team member had a specialty — editing, filming, lighting, coordinating contestants, or prepping materials. My role was making sure everyone’s strengths came through, and that all the moving parts came together into a finished episode.
What We Made
Over the course of the year, we produced three full episodes. Each one featured contestants battling it out in timed challenges, competing in surprise mini-games, and showing off their baking creativity. We aired the episodes across the school’s TVs and shared them on YouTube, where they racked up around 1,000 views.
What I Learned
Producing the show taught me how important diverse talents on a team are. We couldn’t have made it without the editor’s precision, the photographer’s eye, or the coordinators keeping everything on schedule. My job was to keep us organized, motivated, and laughing through the chaos.
The result wasn’t just a baking show, it was proof that when you bring together a group of people with different skills, you can make something bigger, funnier, and better than you ever could alone.
